Student-Athlete Insurance

 

To participate in an in-season PIAA sport, student-athletes must provide proof of insurance as detailed on the PIAA Personal & Emergency Information Form. Parent/Guardian or individual coverage is the primary coverage when a student-athlete is injured.

 

The School District provides supplemental athletic insurance to serve as a safety net for parents and guardians of student-athletes who sustain catastrophic injuries while participating in in-season PIAA sports. Eligible Injuries for Insurance Claims

Insurance claims will be submitted only for injuries that meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Acute fractures of the arms, legs, ribs, shoulders, or feet
     
  • Injuries requiring a surgical procedure
     
  • Injuries requiring ambulance transportation to a hospital
     
  • Injuries that are debilitating in nature and require testing and treatment lasting more than six (6) months

 

Claim Submission Process

 

  1. In qualifying cases, the Athletic Trainer will complete an Insurance Claim Form and submit it to the Athletic Office.
     
  2. The report will be reviewed by the Athletic Director and/or the Administration Office and signed if one or more of the qualifications are met. 
     
  3. Once completed, all necessary paperwork will be sent to the Parent/Guardian of the injured student-athlete.
     

After receiving the claim information, it is the responsibility of the Parent/Guardian to follow the instructions provided. The School District will not participate in or manage any correspondence between the Parent/Guardian and the insurance company.

 

Important Insurance Information

  • The District’s supplemental athletic insurance is SECONDARY to  the primary insurance coverage provided by the Parent/Guardian. 

Optional Student Accident Insurance Coverage

Secondary accident insurance coverage for all students in the School District is also available for purchase directly through AG Administrators, Inc. Two annual plans are offered:

  • Plan #1 – School-Time Coverage ($28 per student)
    Covers injuries that occur while traveling to and from school and while participating in school-sponsored activities, including plays, assemblies, class trips, intramural sports, gym, and physical education classes.
     
  • Plan #2 – 24-Hour Coverage ($124 per student)
    Includes all coverage under Plan #1, plus accidents that occur outside of school hours, including evenings, weekends, vacations, and other non-school-related activities.
